O

Octopus

Maybe I'm getting old but I am really frustrated by these seemingly competing systems.

Background - my daughter has been on a day trip to France with her school with the instruction to text me when they are leaving Dover - so giving me about 2 hours "warning".

No texts, no imessages from her - so I try and contact her - my phone, also being an iphone will only send imessages and these suggest they are delivered....... no answer. I ask my son to contact her (he has a windows phone) and she answers immediately..... so what the hell....

It turns out she has her "data" switched off - so why do the imessages I send say they are delivered? She thinks she has contacted me, but the messages haven't arrived.

So my problem..... if I turn off imessages on my phone, they will go to my ipad. If I turn them off on both what would happen to any messages sent to me in this way (I have loads of clients who use messages rather than phoning and/or emailing!

Suggestions please!

Thanks

think it might be a iphone specific thing. most phones don't send messages via data.

The iPhone will also send texts. If I have a message that hasn't sent if you select and hold down on the message the option comes up to send as a text message.

But it did send richy, and delivered successfully - or at least that's what the phone reported to tel. So even if tel knew about this why would he do it under the belief his message sent

You can also set the iPhone to automatically send as text if the imessage will not deliver.

Not sure what the crack is, when like in Murdoch's situation where the imessage is reported as sent though.

I prefer the iPhone over other brands, I find the usability to be the most simple and efficient. But it irritates the carp out of me when Apple make it difficult to interphase with other brands of androids.

No, just with the labourer. Turned up last week expecting to terminate but the labourer hadn't pulled half the cables in we needed and had backfilled so last week was a case of digging down again and laying more cables. Should be ready to go for today now.

I've given up on Apple I pad trying to get it to pair with android on bluetooth.

That includes windows too.

I think the easy fix to this issue is to just turn off iMessage when you are trying to contact her, and also tell her to do the same for the duration of her stay. Also, you can try sending a text, and if it doesn't work you can just turn on flight mode until you get an error notification. You should be able to choose "send as SMS" instead of iMessage

It was probably delivered to another iOS device. iPad, Mac Book etc that was maybe left at home?

Don't tend to trust delivery of any message, text or imessage. Think there is too much reliance on these technical gadgets. If it were me Murdoch, sod the school and get your daughter to ring in future. Word of advice; you'll find as your kids get older, they get mysteriously more difficult to get hold off, unless they're after some money or wanna come round for dinner
