Just to let you know that i have spoke to a helpful chap from the forum about my situation and reluctantly i will be starting again.

with his advice i will be getting a new install and hopefully utilise a lot of the existing cables where we can as they are yet to be plastred into the walls / ran under floors

he did raise concern at my fusebox as i told him what the problems were and it seems to me that the handy man has utilised an old edition set up box...

lets hope i dont see this handy man ever again as he has caused my wife and i so much problems.

thank you for the kind responses and i can understand why you closed my original post as it did look like i was going to be like a lamb to the slaughter

Best of luck with the new installation. Hope your wife and yourself get your minds put at ease. If you get any future problems with the new electrician, please give us the feedback. We aim to please.

hi all , just to give some feedback as requsted, most of the work is sorted...! electrician did not have to do much in the end as he could re use the cables that the handyman installed , although he did more or less rip the house apart to check where they ran.. got a new fuse box fitted which looks smart and tidy...

unfortunately i was not there when he finished the work as my wife looked after him with tea ,sandwiches etc. i can only say thank you to stephen from durham electrics for all his help.

can highly reccomend him especially when he worked out of hours due to other ongoing works.

You had stephen from durham there, you say your wife looked after him with tea and sandwiches I heard if he goes out of hours it normally means there is extras on the table but we all know stephen he is a sound guy really

glad your all sorted anyway

Without wanting to perpetuate the bad experience you and your wife have endured...who was the "handyman" who did the "install" in the first place as if he fancies himself he will surely be at it again someware else and such folk need to be restricted as to the work they can undertake (taking out of circulation)..?
