I know people will say search but already have and can't seem to get a direct answer and a lot of posts are old, so just from anyone who's done it recent

I've seen people mention they only ask for one cable at light fitting for the intermediate lighting circuit, so this would mean feeding the switch? (Have seen the big dispute about neutrals at switches, but it's quite common at work when we have a lot of spots)

Safe isolation, people mention about proving your testers would this mean they provide a proving unit or will there be a known live source to prove on?

Also have seen people mention it's an open book exam, so when testing does this mean I could an OSG of GN3 in front of me to assist with testing? as not so confident in testing just yet

Also do you have to draw circuit diagrams before you begin install wouldn't be a problem just wondering

circuit diagrams are provided for you in a folder, just connect up the dots so to speak. Make sure you pay attention though as on mine, the cpc was 1.5mm on the 2.5mm ring wired in singles.

They provide you with a proving unit.

Can't remember about the testing as far as books are concerned but I recall memorizing the exact procedure and then writing it down on a sheet of paper when i got in there with little gaps to put in the test results e.g.
1. Continuity of CPC R1/R2 Lights -----
Sockets------
Motor-----
2. Continuity of Ring End to End L----
N---
E---

ETC>>>

You get the picture.

Then all the test results get entered onto the forms.

Be careful to work methodically and don't make silly mistakes like I did when i forgot to disconnect the bonding conductors when i did My Ze. And failed. Cost me £200.

Thanks a lot!

That's the only thing I'm worried about is the testing due to not having done a lot at all not too sure on all tests, might have to ask my boss to see if he'll let me do abit with him guiding me

Hi Elliott, I did my AM2 last year, So if you have any questions feel free to PM me.
As said they give you all the information and a pretty comprehensive diagram of exactly how they want things wiring, Because you need to feed a specific switch.
As far as I'm aware you can use your books for the testing part, But I'd check with your assessor.

(Have seen the big dispute about neutrals at switches,
yes me as well, I still struggle to understand their arguments regarding it though.

Any questions, just ask bud.

Happy to help.

Voltz.

PM me if you want to chat.
But will you slate his grammar ?

Hi mate I did mine in June. Overall it's very easy I was surprised to be honest. You can re-fare to the GN3 and OSG when your doing the testing section but I was told if your basically looking at how to every test they will fail you. But any questions you have I am more than willing to help you out.

On mine the lighting was wired in singles, but read the spec carefully, it caught a few people out when i was there. As for the heating system its pretty much join the dots, I'm on my phone at the minute and I'm out until this afternoon, when i get home ill go into more detail about whats to do and what cables i had to use etc.

Cheers

It does stand for level 2, but only in the way of Assessed Measurement terms as there is also a level 1 test too.

Yes, it's the end of apprenticeship practical test, completed under timed supervision. It involves risk assessment forms, safe isolation, a full booth installation comprising of lighting, power, motor, fire alarm, solar power, full testing including completion of initial verification paperwork, and then 8 separate faults to identify and suggest remedies for.

It's not to be sniffed at. It's a level 3 qualification in the QCF even though it's called AM2.

That's basically what i wanted to know!! I couldn't understand why a Level 2 test/exam was taken at a Level 3 stage of an apprenticeship....
