O

Octopus

This months PE, page 38 is a full page advert for a new guide they have produced – “Guide to Consumer Units”

So they write RUBBISH regs, that most of us think are knee jerk, and them they expect us to pay out more money on a new Guide they have written. They should be giving them to people who have forked out for the BYB IMHO.

Not impressed

And if they had any unselfish/none profiteering bones in their body, they would publish this free of charge.

Understand:- That we require more money from you even whilst in these hard times as tradesmen.

Apply:- Your debit/credit card to support our profit margins.

Learn:- How we can make major mistakes in our publications that you have to abide to...... and how we will throw the book at you if you make a mistake. But when we make a mistake, you have to buy more books from us because we understand how much we have you over a barrel.

The IET must read open forums on the net, if so please take note. We are all getting very frustrated on how you run "your business" and turn a blind eye to "our industry".

"Installing to 421.1.201 can save lives." Give us this information instead of selling it to us!!!!

i have a guide for them ( the IET ) in process of publication.........

Chapter 1.

Requirements.

101.1.1. a brewery

101.1.2. barrels

101.1.3. water, malt, hops, yeast.

and you ( the IET )still can't organise a pi$$ up in a brewery.

Wonder if they have proof read it properly? Or does it come with an errata sheet!

No, you will just have to pay for the four amendments.
But there is already a concern that steel fuse boxes may cause toxic fumes when they burn the protective coating off. A committee has been formed with a view to banning them in 2019.

Completely agree with you Murdoch! I can't believe they are selling another book to help understand one that they have already written, just because it wasn't properly thought through before its first publication. Grrr...

I expect in a few months they'll publish a book to explain the book that explains the book!

From what I can see in the LFB fire stats which was the impetus behind this reg were any lives lost due to a consumer unit fire as the stats don't appear to cross reference this fact this is just more disingenuous twaddle from the IET

Still waiting for someone from the IET to contact me having asked some questions on this subject at elex last year I was told they did not have any technical staff at the show but assured me they would get someone to call me the following week to answer my questions

You need someone to die before we act? I thought the purpose of H&S was prevention. However, if you want deaths, how about 8 firefighters?

2005: 2 Firefighter deaths in Stevenage – the Coroner at the inquest stated that cabling and trunking contributed to their deaths and issued a ‘Rule 43’ report.2007: 4 Firefighter deaths in Warwickshire – the Coroner stated that the failure of the trunking was a factor.
2010: 2 Firefighter deaths in Southampton – the Coroner reiterated the Rule 43 report from the 2005 case in Stevenage.
