Hi, just had a quote to fit a RCBO Consumer unit, the quote also says "The inspection & testing of every circuit", does that mean that all ceiling light connections, light switches and wall sockets would individually be checked as well?

The quote came in at ÂŁ375, is that reasonable?

Thanks

I would ask the guys who gave you the quote but I'd guess probably not. Testing of the circuits would usually be done from the CU to highlight any faults that might be present that the old CU doesn't pick up but could cause a tripping fault on a new CU with RCD's/RCBO's.

As for the ÂŁ375 price being reasonable I wouldn't have the foggiest TBH. Large price differences exist depending on exactly where your house is, what equipment they've quoted to install and how many circuits or existing faults you have.

as marvo says. the testing of the circuits is to make sure they are safe for use and that there are no problems that might cause RCBOs to trip. ÂŁ375 is a reasonable price.

What you should be asking the spark is for the EIC (electrical Installation certificate) and confirmation that the work will be Part P registered. I would recommend you ask this before the work starts.

ÂŁ375 is cheap for a RCBO CU - how many circuits are there? and is your bonding up to date?

Think murdock is right ÂŁ375 for a RCBO CDU is very cheap having said that if there is 4 circuits its about right RCBO's range from ÂŁ18.00 to ÂŁ40 each so you can work it out for your self if you change a fuse box Consumer unit then its a require ment to provide an installation certificate an notification and test every circuit too

Yeah it was mentioned about the the Part P registration with NICEIC and I'd get sent a certificate of the work done from NICEIC.

There are 4 of the old type ceramic fuses in there, so I assume 4 circuits!

And what about the EIC? The cert from the NICEIC is probably the part P compliance.

The 4 way RCBO board is a good solution IMHO.

Did he speak English? Check his NIC registration number as well, there are a lot of hoaxers doing the rounds, you pay you money and they OFF, never to be seen againsky.
