Some good stuff there but I think the solar book is for an American market with references that don't apply here.

Yep your quite correct in saying the idiots guide is forthe American market, just thought I would have a read at the price I got it.The Regs book is looking like it has lot of diagrams; also the PIR has nowbecome Electrical installation condition report, a bit of a change in thatsection to. I shall have a good look over weekend. I would love to upload somechanges but might have the IEE on my back.
Part 3 also has quite a few diagrams, taken from definitions. along with some new stuff.

When you go through the BGB and see the hundreds of changes and additional diagrams etc. you can see why the IET couldn't just release a few pages as an amendment to insert into existing books, immense work went into this book and I think they did a very good job.

Yes, but as our Friend Brad says in his Sig Line ....... "Do it once, do it right ....."

I have to wonder if a little more time & thought had gone into the Big Red Book in the first place there maybe wouldn't have been a need for the Big Green Book so soon.

It's 3 years and you have to have a cutoff for publication!

Much of the amendment comes from the Harmonised Document and the constant changes that we agreed to adopt, there are changes now that didn't make the cutoff for amendment 1-this is an industry that is changing faster than at any other time so there's no such thing as a finished book of regulations, it's evolution baby! (to quote Pearl Jam)

Thank you.

I now stand erected. ;)

I couldnt agree more. I'm very impressed with appendix 6 in particular. The new SOTR is really straight forward but relevant too.

Things change and develop so I can appreciate why the Regs have to be updated from time to time. I think most people cant stomach the huge cost of purchasing new reading material each time, plus it isn't environmentally friendly. You'd think that 'someone' would incentivise us by making the online version cheaper so as to tempt us into subscribing on line.

I asked my NICEIC assessor if it mattered if I had a paper copy of the BGB/onsite guide etc and he said it didn't matter if it was digital or paper based. I'm seriously thinking about going over to computer based literature only.

I think you might be a little wrong as the cost and material to make a computer would cost slightly more to make than a book, also the power to run the computer each time someone wants to look up a regulation, along with the cost of buying the regulations on disc, or down load, this i would say is less environmentally friendly.
what would be better is if IET had to purchase back the books that are out, at a set price or even better give every one money off the new book each time, like car part dealers, and have to recycle the old books, what say you.
