Hi guys, first time posting here for me, from looking around the forum posts its nice to see others with a similar frame of mind to my own. much better than some of the current lack of technical conversation i get with the fitters i work alongside :6:.

So here goes. I have recently qualified as an installation electrician many thanks to my current employer and especially my chargehand whos taught me more in 2 years than i couldve ever imagined. anyway, i work in a corrugated board manufacturing production-line currently (so yeah it was a rather large shock to the system going from socket outlets + luminaires to plc's and integrated plant :smart:). Coming across schematics and the like i seem to have found my niche' and get quite a disturbing kick out of designing installations + drawing them up as schematics . just wondering really, since i have just qualified, what would the next step be for becoming a designer? courses ect?

Many thanks!

Electrical design course, 2391-20

Thanks mate, can i go straight into that or am i required to do my 2391 Inspection and testing beforehand? from what i have just read that is a requirement for entry to the course, but isnt 2391 included in part of the full apprenticeship?

Some colleges will not let you do the design course unless you have the Inspection & Testing cert prior to doing the design course like the college I did my design course at as they didn't do the inspection part thus cutting the course down to 20 weeks instead of 30 weeks if they include it.

Also be they would not let you do the I & T course unless you had the regs cert beforehand or did it along side it on another night.

Ahh, okay that adds a bit of clarity to the situation. i shall followup and see if there are any local colleges that do the whole kaboodle lol!

-Also how was the course, was it difficult? did you use your new quals from it to further your career? sorry for all the questions lol.

Have you thought at going on to a HNC type course? you sound reasonably interested in the subject so maybe that could be a useful step for you.

Make sure you enrol before August if you do decide on this route. Prices are jumping around 150% at some establishments, particularly the distance learning route.
