Hello All

I just came across 2x 2.5 wiring cable inserted into ONE length of hard round cunduit (about 2.5ft) if I had not changed it what wold be the worst case scenaio..? It is part of the ring, so left side in and right side out (as it were) all within the same conduit.

as long as the cable is rated for the current and the ref. method of installation, what's the problem?

So...what would happen if it was left alone, isnt this a problem with thermal effects..? E.g worse case scenario catching fire..!

only if the cable can't take the current without overheating. but the OCPD should be selected to prevent that. that's what they are for.

So what would be the effect if the whole of the circuit was installed in conduit, ....Kaboom?? lol!!

Can't really see what the problem is to be honest.

Assuming of course it's protected according to it's installed capacity (ie: derated as installed in conduit and grouped with other cables)

I think my record is 22 1.5mm singles is a bit of 20mm conduit...

Had to buy a new tub of lube after that nightmare

C'mon lads, go easy on the fella, he's obviously a trainee. Se7aq, we use conduit for many cables at once and for different circuits. Derating factors for grouping in conduit don't tend to be that high and wouldn't apply at all to one circuit. By far the worst derating factor is thermal insulation, a common way to avoid having to apply this is to use conduit to pass the cable through thermal insulation.

I take it you've not heard of cable and conduit 'factors' then

In relation to the original post, if you've got 2 T&E cables in a conduit, I believe they should only take up a maximum of 35% of the internal space.

Cheers

It's things like this that really annoy me!! People that clearly know nothing about metal containment wiring, and then think they are being clever by boasting about how many singles they can squeeze in to a given size conduit.... I bet every last conductor has been stretched to buggery in that conduit, but that wouldn't even have entered his mind!!

Thanks for all your replies (I think), its great knowing that now one was taking the urine.
So basically if I had left it it would have been fine..?! Is that what we are all trying to say in your none Mickey Mouse taking kinda way?

Bonjour
