We're collecting a couple of 250ltr kits tomorrow to see if they live up to the hype.

TBF the bloke selling them wasn't trying too hard and said rather than give us a heavy sales pitch he could put us in touch with a couple of installers from different parts of the country that have been installing them for last couple of years with one of them installing little else. We are going to install one at cost plus 10% and the other in my daughters home so that we can monitor running costs more accurately.

I might have some photo's of an install early next week.

are they the water heating only units?

I'm working on a project now that could have been worthwhile for these, but I just couldn't get the costs to stack up. Oddly enough, this wasn't helped by the big PV system, as that makes it more economic to just fit an immersun unit to do probably 70-80% of the hot water needs via the immersion heater from electricity that'd otherwise have been exported.

I was/am considering offering it for the heating as well, but got put off by something I read about it only working down to -2, plus needing 4 of the units for about £8k.

I'd be interested in the persons contact details you dealt with on it though if you don't mind.

I'm yet to be convinced so we will monitor my daughters system closely. The paying customer wanted a thermomax system jumped at having this system installed at less than half the price knowing full well that they will be our first install and that we know very little about the system at this stage.

Gavin I will pm you the contact details tomorrow night providing the guy is happy for me to give them to you.

cheers.

I may have already been in contact with him, as we've expressed and interest to 2 different companies so far, and had pricing info etc, just not really quite enough info to be using to make quotes with IMO.

Well we have picked up two kits and tbh they're nothing special. The cylinders look like cheap european or even chinese quality with warranties of 2-3 years. The only cylinders that are wras approved (despite the ever present logo) are the 280's. They can be used as vented or unvented but........... they don't come with a g3 kit although they will give you a document saying they can be used as an unvented providing you add the necessary parts. I pointed out that as far as I'm aware you cannot add your own kit it has to be the manufacturers as supplied with the cylinder, hence the letter.

The panel and compressor unit seem pretty well made.

Gavin I will pm you contact details in a minute.

We're not doing solar thermal - I'm just interested in stuff like this. What sort of costs are they coming in at? They look like a cross between solar thermal and ashp but in a positive way.

How do you get the heat above 55 degrees to avoid legionaires? When we first put in ashp this was one of the issues with the hot water side. I can see it being very attractive if the price was right and if you have to top up a bit now and then with fossil fuel it could still be a price worth paying.

Mind you I'm not convinced about claims of 33% of fuel bills being for hot water. Has anyone seen the Sutherland Tables recently? They have a breakdown of costs by fuel/house type and occupancy if I remember right and have an average % of fuel used for hot water.

it'd have to be a very very well insulated house with high water demand for that to be right, so probably significantly less than 0.1% of the housing stock.

Don;t want this thread to go off topic, so I'll start a thread in the main forum on legionaires because guess (puts helmet on, ducks and waits for the shells to arrive) what: According to various sources, 'Green Energy' installtaions and Domestic Installations are exempt for L8 guidelines. --- I suggest no more comments on legionaires here - see main forum http://www.electriciansforums.net/p...ing-solar-thermal-water-heating-domestic.html

What's the chances of Barry Johnson popping up on the main forum shortly :censored:

SRE the systems come with with anti legionella controls built in it brings the immersion heater on for 1 hour a week( I believe)

Gavin did you get that pm I sent you?
