had a call yesterday asking if i could replace a thermostat. it is a honeywell, the customer has got an exact replacement. the old thermostat has been removed and used at wholesalers to show model etc for replacement. Is there a standard for the wiring? ie will i find just a live, N and earth or will there be control wires?

I know most boilers have L1 L2 outlets etc, but i have limited experience with these?
Are they just straight forward? 1s voltages 230 or lower into stat?

Just dont want to turn up blind if i can help it.

cheers

stat is just a switch, usually you should just have L,N,S/L . ( netral reqd. to power the electronics in the stat. )

You may have a few possiblities at stat depending on boiler, it might be low voltage or mains with or without neutral, if you only have 2 cores its likely to be L and SW whatever the voltage is, and if 3 core then L/SW/N.

cheers guys, is it worth looking at the boiler end to confirm colours, ie to confirm S/L so as not to damage any ccts? or would it be obvious?

Depends which thermostat he has ,there are 3 T6360 types :T6360A 1 live in 2 neutral 3 load 4 4 cooling 5 load for neon 6 neutral for neon.
T6360 same as T6360A but with anticipator ,T6360C same as T6360a but with an on off switch , then there the T4360A which is a frost stat ,Pin 1 live, Pin 2 neutral ,pin 3 load ,the T4360C has an on off switch ,then 2 becomes live, 3 load, 5 load neon, 6 neutral neon

look at the instructions in the box and if they're really tricky say you've left your test meter at home and that you'll fit it tomorrow ;)

cheers, just picturing alot of wires hanging on wall, not marked, no idea of what went where, will just have to buzz out if thats the case from boiler to stat etc.....................2 min job could turn into a 2hr one???!!!!!!
thanks for input though, another day of on the job learning me thinks!
