BS7671 amendment 4 circa 2018. all solar panel arrays installed after jan. 1st 2019 must be enclosed in a box constructed from a non-combustible material. steel boxes meet this requirement.

The council said all its solar panels were checked annually, with those at the town hall checked two weeks ago.

The most ironic thing about this whole story is that I sat with the council a couple of years back, advising them with the installer on the fire-safety solutions we could include in the system, only for them to decide not to include them in the spec.....one aspect was an automatic Fireman's Safety Switch....wouldn't necessarily have stopped the fire from starting in the first place (not on its own anyway) but certainly would have helped the fire service have the confidence to attack the fire a lot sooner. This is a locked section of the site, so I don't mind sharing that I know the system and the installer. It will be interesting to see if any root cause is ascertained.

Did they use Sunpower panels? Nothing but the best for local government!!

Isn't this the council where the Green Party are in charge?

Oh - their Facebook page - 18 Nov 2013 - says Sunpower.

Possibly Brighton got the black-framed Sunpowers and Hove got the cheapos!
