hi people i have been thinking about buying a van and giving it a go at setting up myself, was just wondering if anyone could help me with how i would go about this ?? the best way to get work etc ? thanks

You get out what you put in mate, I set up two years ago and I can say hand on heart within the last 12 months I have not lost one week day, flat out and I have work until Xmas, even I didn't expect it.
In the early part my plan was to spread myself 50 miles either way , for me as I'm based in the middle of the north Wales coast I basically would accept work anywhere in between Wirral to Holyhead, I put 14000 on the van in 6 months but.
I lot of lads I know won't travel more than 20 mile and won't drop their rate, crazy, my ultimate target is to hit my rate locally but even if I drive 50 mile and drop the rate say 20 on the day I still do well.
Keep your customers sweet, that means being available all the time to answer questions, go that extra half mile, if a customer rings you at 9.30pm with a query, answer it, you get the picture.
I love it, been trying for a week off since feb but I can't get it!

I jumped ship about 3 months ago fortunately I have a fair few builders that I know /owe me favours so give me work and have a few contacts but its not easy , had a few renovations but unless you have other stuff you can fall back on its risky, there is work out there just don't expect it to come to you , you will have to go looking for it! The people that hav money are doing places up and looking for bargains so keep your costs low!
