hi all. would like some peoples thoughts please.

im qualified to 16th edition and have done my am2 and it seems i cant find work.. ive been out of the trade for nearly a year and have tried everything. my background is mostly maintenance work but have gained a small amount of domestic experience too. it seems i dont have the experience to go it alone but nobody seems to want to give me the chance :(

my now thought is a change of career.. im just at a dead end and dont no what to do

thanks jamie.

Don't become a taxi driver trust me.... If your claiming befits I believe you can get free electrical courses. Look into that, get the 17th at least and try and see if you can get the 2391 (mate of mine had to pay half) try it, you never know and it looks better on a cv. Good luck mate.

I paid a one quarter of the price for 2391 college paid half tell them you been made redudant and jobcentre or local skills shop will be able to help with some of cost as local skills shop paid a quarter of the full price so it only cost me £140 with a extra optional day practical

Before you do and if your on JSA go to your local office and ask for you local

Economic Development Manager/Rapid Response Service Manager.

As there have been a change in government they may have cut back on training, but a couple of lads I know who were made resundant in November last year got the 17th, the 2391-10, 2377-022 and the Fire alarm and emergency lighting courses from them. It's worth a try.

Then do it!!! If you can AFFORD to that it. Whats the point of struggling along looking for work that ain't out there fella, when you can turn your hand to something else? What sort of hobbies do you have? Could one of them have the potential to earn you some coin? You can always go back to college as well. It all depends on what you want to do, your time frame and financial constraints. Good luck anyway.

Jamie join Unite the union and they'll help pay for training and you'll get somebody to guide you with decision making/looking for a job. Also I found maintenance works to be a dead end job in themselves, get qualified and get onto construction/petrochem/ships etc. More money, better conditions, more interesting work, better chance of gaining extra experience.

madmac, are you sure that Unite still offer training etc for trades outside of their remit? I though that they were skint personally? However it is a good idea that you suggested about looking into petrochemical plants and ships.
