So I rolled up to add a new circuit to a very new board with a few spare MCB's in it - a nice and easy Friday job I thought....
and when I'd dropped in to look at the job previously I'd looked at the MET...
The cupboard was pretty fun but by the look of the board and the nice clean GY I wasn't anticipating any issues until the cupboard was clear and I noticed .....
So a quick Ze had my alarm bells ring - my trusty tester wouldn't perform one!
So I inspected a bit closer...
Well that goes to the water and up to the board, and it would reach to the board too without the joint!
A quick look at the meter etc:
Those boards are both off and have G's back to the met....
GY to the gas outside.
Now this isn't a TT, so I'm guessing its not had an earth for quite a while - possibly since the 1930's when it was built.
How can people sleep at night, installing replacement boards without even a test for an earth??
So I made calls to EON, Seeboard, EDF and UK Power Networks and someone will come out soon
Watch this space and I'm not looking forward to my next mobile bill with all the 0800's I've called today!
