When testing ZE today on a TN-S supply I got 561 Ohms , upon further investigation I noticed the supply cable had a nice break in the outer sheathing about half way down! and it had some weird looking liquid/gel on it, am I right in assuming this would be the cause of the high ZE ? as when I clamped on to the lead before the break I got 91 Ohms. I had another job to attend so it was left with another sparky who did some other test and later on told me Western Power where on their way. :dunce2:

Well, clearly the tear is going to effect it! But even so, 91 ohms before the break needs investigating.

Well for it to drop 490 ohms it had to have something to do with it mate.

That's true mate, just waiting on the outcome now, any idea on what the gel or leaking substance could have been, it seems to have set all bubbly as well.

Not a clue Morley, one of the other lads with more DNO experience will be along soon enough and will have a better idea than me.
The thing that concerns me though is that, on face value anyway, someone has known about this break and has walked away from it.

I completely agree with you Trev, who in the right mind just tapes it up and buggers off like nothing is wrong! hopefully i'm there tomorrow and can see if the DNO is about and ask them a few questions :) I'm sure they wont mind lol.

Good thinking - the other side of that is my garage and also where the gas comes in so probably quite a tidy solution if it comes to it!
