Many of you may have recieved this email newsletter the NICEIC.
Here's part of it.

"Back in May, as the election was at the forefront of everybody’s thoughts, NICEIC emailed 18,000 of its registered contractors for the main issues they would like to see NICEIC lobbying government on. "

The response was fantastic, and the key themes that emerged were:

1: The ability for electricians to refit/ remove cut-outs from main power companies
2: Stop DIY outlets selling electrical goods to the general public
3: Make it law for landlords to have a PIR before a tenant moves in
4: Make it compulsory to be registered with an electrical scheme

Here's my thought on it.......

1: how many times has this fallen on deaf ears?
2: Not going to happen.
3: Not going to happen.
4: To benefit the scheme provider with more money.

Pathetic in in my opinion!

Yeah i agree with you on all your thoughts there sparks, Especially no.2 which is massive business for the diy stores, that will never happen unless Part P decide that it is illegal for the diy'er to undertake any electrical work whatsover, which as we know there are still a number of thing they can legally do without having to notify, therefore they are quite within their right to purchase most electrical items.

Cheers Dazza.

Can you imagine how many jobs would be lost if DIY stores had to stop selling to the public,
1000's overnight!

Their was also another part of news letter regarding a builder who's been prosecuted for leaving an electrical installation "unsafe", I would like to know how many Part P prosecution their have been since it's introduction in 2005, 3-4-10 perhaps!, I've witnessed new installations that have been done on the cheap but LABC won't do anything about it, neither will the HSE, if no one's been injured they simply don't want to know.
the only one's who do take an interest are Trading standards......if they can get hold of them that is.
The whole Part P thing is an utter & complete fail!

The day a prosecution is made of an installation that is A1 but not notified through the correct channels, thats the day that part p would be seen to be taken seriously by the powers that be

I have always maintained " what judge in his right mind would entertain a prosecution of an installer who's only mis demeaner was the registration process or the notification of that work"

The answer is no judge would permit the case to waste his time

Part p is now a long standing joke
The problem being that the joke wore thin a few years ago

Its seen more now as grouping of registered mugs

when electrical installation materials are purchased from any large or small DIY outlets, the person buying them should be made respossible, i.e
1-proof of id to a proffesional body
2-their details passed on to the LBC
at least it should keep someone busy pushing all that paperwork around?
Part P isn't working and cant while anybody can buy cable over the counter to wire some "PLUGS"

It ( part P ) will never work.... As long as there are car boot sales and on-line auction sites there will always be an endless supply of "stuff"

i would like to no how many successfull part p prosecutions there have been in my area since it was introduced and why they have not been named and shamed.
also, why have the NICEIC not publicised these `prosecutions` with the same vigour and enthusiasm they give to there relentless marketing and sales crap that they ram down my throat on a weekly basis?
part p is a big rip off

NICEIC=dick turpin

they must be the most successfull `charity` on this planet them and the `training centres` have ruined the trade.

Sorry glynnis I disagree 100%.
Big brother left downing street a few months ago, we don't need any more quangos
or any more governments telling the public that their incompetent & need a scheme provider to hold their hand.

Exactly what I've been saying all along, if you did your job correctly but didn't notify the council
then how the hell can you in line for prosecution!..........prosecution for what exactly.

There have been prosecutions for "failing to notify".

Never heard of of anyone being prosecuted becuse they didn't notify the council.
I believe it's the council that have to bring the case to court in the first place, costing thousands in court costs for the sake of a few hundred pounds, doesn't add up.

I've only seen the NICEIC point out 2 "successful" prosecutions in 5 years.
Both jobs done by "builders".
The NICEIC are trying to sweep up where the JIB have failed, money talks.
