Hi,
Hoping you can help an extremely confused non-electrically minded Process Engineer.
We've Googled this to death and think we know the answer but thought we check with some experts!

We've got a bit of equipment supplied to us and its rated at three phase, 208V, 60Hz.

Is there a specific type of plug we should fit to it? Its come with a Red 400V three phase style plug...should this have been fitted?

Hope you can be of some help!

Kind Regards

A confused chemical engineer!

We've got a transformer system set up in out test facility to get literally whatever three phase power we like thought various types of socket (3PNE, 3PE, etc)

The main concern is, is the plug colour/type inline with European standards? Is this 208V 3 phase (3P-E) unit okay to have a red 400V (3P-E) plug or should we refit it with a different type plug on the basis we may ship it out to other people to run trials with?

Theres so many types and colours of industrial three phase plug, we're all a little confused...we dont want somoene plugging it into a 400v supply just because thats the plug type currently fitted...

I think you may have to contact the suppliers, or perhaps the manufacturers.
208V per phase would produce 415V.
In the UK, we would normally refer to this as 415V 3 Phase.
It might be that the Danes, or even the Americans who have manufactured the machine use a different refferences.

Which is what will happen with the current plug on it.

If the machine HAS to have a 208v 3 phase supply, I don't know where in Europe this would be available.

It's common in the US to run 208v/3-phase machinery on 240v through a phase converter, 240v in - 208v/3 phase out, if your machine is run through one of these? it will be getting the correct supply and the converter can be plugged into any 230v supply, the suppliers of these converters would be able to advise you,

If you are asking 'is there another type of 3 phase plug that you could put on your machine to ensure it only gets 208v 3 phase' - no I don't think so.

Hope I've grasped your problem correctly.

looks like the Machine is Made in the USA and was imported into Denmark for a specialist use, then sold onwards to the UK for a similar use, can you supply the machine model number and maybe a digital photo of the serial number sticker/plate that will have the power ratings etc on it...

What type of machine are we talking about here?? And, is this machine going to be used in various locations in your facility?? I ask, because if this machine is only going to be used in one location, then you can fit a non-colour coded industrial outlet and plug top specifically for this machine.

You will not find a European colour coded 3 phase outlet/plug that is designated for your machines voltage, as this is without doubt an American voltage band....either manufactured in the US,... or manufactured for the US. As Spin suggested, contact the manufacturer, they may have made a shipment mistake....
