hi all
im studing 2330 level 3 at the moment and working as a mate and have come arcoss something that im really not 100% sure of where were working at the moment they want 3ph n and e to one 63 amp socket but there is only 3ph & n coming in to the building. i heard the sparky say just put the earth in with the neutral ,
is this safe ?
will it work ok ?

Well no ................the regs do not allow you to make a PME systen within an installation.

Are you sure there is no earth to the building??

Three phase or not, the characteristics will still be TT, TNS, or TNCS.

i did have a good look for an earth but couldnt find one.
it is an old barn and my have been there some time

Well if there is no Earth at all you will either have to contact the DNO and ask them if they will supply an earth which will be at a cost.

If they say no then you will have to TT. Either way you can not leave the building without earth protection.
