Can anyone explain why we are not allowed to through wire? The big red seems to say don't do it unless the lamp is designed for it. But how do you tell if it is designed for it? The lamps always have knock outs at each end, am I looking for two sets of terminals inside, one in one out? Or do I have to run conduit along side the lamp and T into it? Or can I simply go in and out of the same end?
All help gratefully received.

I have been lead to believe that the reason we shouldn't through wire is that in the event of a unit failure it would not be possible to remove the one fitting and leave the rest in working order without leaving a selection of unsupported wires joined in the middle.

personally when using conduit I prefer to mount the fittings to conduit boxes.

yeah or on jack chain, with greggs and flex

agree greggs and flex. one reason you don't wire through floories is that the cable has to pass the ballast, the heat from which, in time, will pulverize the cable insulation and cause mega problems. seen a few .

Furthermore, as the left hand switch will currently not do anything, I'd try the loose brown in here:
