I would tell them if they wanna pay peanuts then go an get a monkey. Fit the Marbo or Lap....don't forget your mark up though.

It's frustrating at times, I've actually given away a job over the home owner trying to get ÂŁ20 off the job just wasn't worth the hassle so said find someone else. Why do people think they are doing you a favour by giving you work, yeah it's nice to get the work but has to still be worth while.

Hum... It gets worse when people buy kit themselves and ignore your advice then you are fitting rubbish, which is difficult to fit and you get the blame for it taking too long!

Luckily my sector of industry is protected from the tight wods if they want the machinery to turn a profit then they pay me what I ask ... the longer they barter the price the more down time and lost earnings ... takes a few of them a while to realise that but all good in the end

Murdoch I do actually do some work for a builder that insists on buying the materials, he gets my list then when I turn up he has half of what I need as he forgets things or don't want to spend to much in one go.. Nightmare. Next year going to have to tell him can't accept this!

Tell him every minute you are stood around and cant get on due to lack of gear, you'll be billing him extra to the agreed price.

Maybe your quotation should include a clause to the effect that any time lost on site caused by the actions or omissions by others will be charged at ÂŁXX/hour.

You should submit your quote in writing and get an order in writing referencing your quotation. The final bit is to send an acknowledgement of his order.

It sounds like a lot of work but it is a one shot deal to set up the forms and many are on line.
All I'm saying is get it done up front so you both know where you stand going in.
The customer should appreciate your professional approach.
