I know this is the PV section of the Electrical forum and not a plumbers forum but I also know that some of you have a fair bit of experience with boiler time clocks and so would appreciate some advice.

As some of you may know my boiler is controlled by a glorified electronic "Or" gate whereby if the room stat calls for heat the boiler fires up and provides pumped heat (and gravity hot water as a by product) and if the hot water cylinder stat calls for heat the boiletr fires up (unpumped) to supply the hot water tank.

Im going to replace this with a time clock, but continue to run the central heating via a stat so in effect wire the time clock via the room stat and leave the heating part on 24 hours - this might sound strange but the house is well insulated and maintaining it at 16 degrees isnt a costly or difficult job, this makes boosting it to 20 degrees when needed quick and easy.
The time clock really will just be needed for the hot water part of the heating system as I now want to limit the time the boiler is firing just for this part.

Any suggestions on a suitable time clock?

The boiler is a Baxi Solo 2 and whilst old is in perfect working order. Should I replace it in the future it will be with a similar boiler to retain a hot water tank.

Get a simple single channel programmable controller: HeatandPlumb.com: Timeswitches and Programmers - Free UK Delivery

You just need a timer, not one with a programmable room stat :) You can get 1 day, 7 day and 5+2 day timers - this one Honeywell ST9100C 7 Day Single Channel Programmer is one of the better ones

Though if you try fleabay you may find something like this Danfoss Dual Channel Programmer | eBay and just use ione of the channels.

For how to wire these things up the Honeywell (free) app is excellent
