Is it possible to get the shower on a timeclock for certains lengths of times,

Its for the children because they always have really long showers, haha, so trying to cut it down with a timeclock,

would it go through a 40amp contactor, and then use the timeclock/timeswitch to switch the coil??

what kind of timeclock, would you recommend ?

My oldest is in the shower for 30 mins at at a time with my combi roaring it's head off for all the time.it really ticks me off.after finding him lying in the bottom of the enclosure like the terminator drinking a can of coke? I turned the boiler off at the spur! It's not as if they do any work to get dirty anyway.must b something in the teenage genetic code.

If you use something like a time lag switch or an immersion booster switch, what's to stop your kids getting out of the shower and resetting it?

Time Lag switches/immersion boosters will control a contactor without problem. Where you site the controls and gear is a different issue. No one needs to shower for more than 15mins though!!!

yea,so basically there isnt a issue with the current being used for controlling the coil then yea?? am I right in saying that???

As long as everything in the control circuit is suitable its fine. If the shower circuit is also the control circuit you're going to need to use 6/10MM cable and a suitable accessory to handle the possible load. Coming of the lighting circuit for the controls would be a lot better, likely to be rated 10A max and 1.5MM cable most likely.

Yea but if i was too put the contactor/MCB inside an enclosure box and was coming off the supply side of the shower supply and fused the control circuit down to 6amps MCB inside the box that would be ok yea????

Should add if your going to use the shower circuit for controls you could add an inline fuse (slidelock type if I remember right used to be the done way) to the contactor enclosure that would fuse everything down for the controls part of the circuit. No reason you couldn't go from the feed side of the contactor, into an attached FCU with 3A fuse and take your control circuit from there.

If you get your hands on a 40/50A timer or the likes of it, there would be no need for a contactor (no idea if anything of the like exists, or is readily available).

Yep, it would be fine.

Could use the coin meter to control the contactor, let the kids pay for their showers themselves:50:

why is everyone adamant with standard timers there is a better way to do it and the kids will learn appreciation that gas and electric cost money... buy a coin meter give them enough money for 5 mins and say any extra time you want you pay for yourself, they can shower as long as they need but at their own cost, its all a tad over-board and respect for their parents should be first lesson, with kids and mobiles/computers its amazing what turning the modem off can do for respect as they are lost without them. If forced to do this id get a plc for about 60quid and programme it with codes for each kid, they can only use it once a day for whatever i set and i have my own code for unlimited use ha ha ha ....sit back an watch them weep :)
