As my family seem completely incabable of turning the bathroom light off, I want to install a time delay switch (like those you get in stairwells in flats etc.) Does anyone know of one that can be easily overridden if someone goes for a bath. (PIR wouldn't work as switch is on the landing).

Hehe you have kids like mine. Don't know of one with an over ride but I'd bet there will be one. Try a forum sponsor Meteor Electrical mate their online help service is pretty good

In that case I'd suggest getting a sparky in Sunny. For what it'll cost you it'll give peace of mind that it's been done.
Post upyour location and I'll bet one of us is near you.

I really have looked into the PIR route and it's not a goer based on the position of the switch and the layout of the bathroom. It would involve lifting up the boards in the loft (and removing all the junk etc). Also, who wants to leap out of their hot bath and jump up and down dripping wet to get the lights to turn back on? I have also found that the GU10 replacements I bought, don't fit in our luminaires. I've now removed half of the lamps but it still drives me nuts when I have a pv array on the roof trying it's damnedest to give me 200W on a dull day, to find half of it is being used to provide lighting in an empty bathroom! I just want a timer!

............................. Have just been into the (L-shaped) bathroom to re-evaluate possible positioning of PIR sensor and noticed that I have a separate (long forgotten) shaver light. Problem solved! Thanks all for the suggestions. This is a really good forum.

You can now get a LED GU10 bulb that only uses 4 watt, and they are good. A lad at word has replaced all his in his house and loves them.
