Hi All,

Had a job today where the tenant would get a shock from the kitchen sink when she used it.It was not happening all the time.
So i got my meggar out and done and insulation test from all the circuits on the fuseboard to the water pipes. i got a reading of 1.78Mohms. this seems quite low but wouldn be a short on the pipe.bonding is in place as tested to gas 0.03ohm but water is only bonded at the boiler no main bonding.
fuseboard is old rewirable fuses.
what do you think about insulation test and no main bonding on water but at boiler?
Cheers.

Thats a low reading, could be a suspected break down of insulation somewhere. Has the customer had any leaks recently in the house?
The main bonding is a big one, it may have supplementry bonding at the boiler, but with no main bonding to connect it to the MET nothing can be bought to the same potential.

Could this be the case. there is 2 flats in the building but its not the same landlord and dont no if they are having the same problem

I was being a tad flippant in relation to there being yet another landlord out there neglecting their duties when it comes to electrical safety.

An old board, low IR and limited bonding would suggest at the very least some work needs doing.

Any RCD protection or mains smokes?
