Tips advice for new build installations

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone had any tips or advice for wiring new build. I've been working on social housing occupied rewires and normal domestic but going for an interview for newbuilds. I'm thinking its got to be easier then occupied, but jus gota watch out for the other trades damaging my wiring.

Going from occupied to new builds? You'll love it!

You'll probably be climbing over all the other trades but other than that what tips to you need? Just crack on eh!

tip 1,...keep eyes on tools,....they will go walkies,.......QUICKLY!

It will be a breeze for you if you have been used to rewire work occupied.

Also if you are going to be doing lots of big jobs invest in a tool vault that you can lock up on site, make sure all your power tools, batteries and chargers have your initials etched into them as you will find if there are lots of guys on the same site with the same power tools the gear can get mixed up quite quickly and there is nothing worse than ending up with a your drill and someone's old duff batteries.

Also remember to comply with building regs (joist drilling zones etc) - your work may/will be inspected.

Tel agent , don't insulate loft til I'm done there , and if you do I throw all out of hatch . And make sure the plastere/p**ck's don't start boarding untill you've finished and if so let then know in no uncertain terms if I have to take them boards down they will be in no state to go back on a wall unless they're making a mosaic
Allways use metal 35mm boxes when poss
Remember a good 1st fix will save you time on 2nd fix things like noggins for lighting fixtures , dist boards wall lights ext... And coming from occupied's ..... Enjoy except for the usual thing of builder wanting it wired before you've even started itl be a dream

Listen to the builder at all times , if he wants you to cut corners and keep costs down , then do as he says , also don't hassle the builder for money , let the builder or any of his guys mess around with your work , oh and one more thing let them miss use any of your tools as he sees fit , take all this into account and you should get on well ….

Plastic conduit up walls to joists. Using them bracket things for stud walls.

Plastic conduit cutters and tin snips and you will be way quicker than chasing etc when you get the gear

It will prob be dot an dab plasterboard and won't need capping or conduit, just clip it. Any box deeper then 25mm you need to chase in that amount eg a 35mm box needs chasing in 10mm. As already mentioned observe 0.25-0.4 the span of the joists rule for drilling holes.
