Hi, just need some advice from other members. I am 30 and completed my level 2 & 3 2330 (career change), and now in the position of wanting to become an electrician's mate. I know it sounds silly finding work is harder when you don't drive ( learning to drive at the mo). I have no experience in the industry apart from studying in college. My question is, what advice would you give someone, who doesn't have experience in industry and is over 30 to find mates work?. Preferably I am looking for permanent work, stable income to pay rent ( working part time in retail at the mo) and is driving a must? Any advice I would be grateful! Thanks in advance.

I think you'll be very lucky to find permanent, regularly paid mate's work without any experience or being able to drive. When I started out I managed to get bits of agency work as a mate, but you never know when you're going to be told you're not needed. The idea was to get a foot in the door to impress them so I'd get taken on. I suppose the way to get permanent work on the cards straight away is simply to call around all the electrical companies in your area, although around me they're laying people off rather than taking on.

I'm sure you don't need me to tell you that changing career will be an uphill struggle and a challenge.
Good luck!

Ask if anyone is taking on at the local wholesalers never failed me just explain in the interviews your keen and haven't had any on site training this will also show on your wage but you need to be within a company to gain further with your education
