Maybe a point of contention, but this year I plan to register with a scheme and start setting up a business. Now, some will say "but you'll only have a Level 2" - that's correct, I'll be starting my Level 3 in September, but I want to start and build a business up in the summer, doing smaller jobs (only the stuff I'd be fairly competent in). Hopefully then, by the time I've completed my Level 3 I'll have a bit of a reputation to build upon, and a few clients to go with it.

Anyhow, with that in mind, I don't want to upset the apple cart by going around calling myself an "electrician" on my business cards when I quite clearly won't be qualified fully (yet). However, I don't want to get a load of cards printed off and then find I have to update them when I am fully qualified, so what would be the best thing to put on the business cards?

Something like Electrical Installer?

I know what you mean here. I have my Level 3 City & Guilds Tech certificate from college and the City and Guilds 2394/5 and a few years experience on site. Not done the NVQ3 or Am2 so in the eyes of the JIB not suitable for a gold card yet.

You do not have to put a job title on the business card.
You can just specify what the business does.
So if you put:
Hightower
Electrical Installations
Small jobs welcome
Fully compliant work undertaken in accordance with BS7671!
Call for a free estimate

Have then not made any possibly misinterpreted statements.

Good luck with starting the business.
