Ok, I'm leaving myself open for some serious abuse here.... I was asked a question today, who can answer it.

question: how do you identify a tncs system through testing at the consumer unit when you have no access to the incoming head? So what they are asking is how do you determine what the incoming supply is, tns or tncs

Check the PSCC and PEFC, on a TNC-S system they will be exactly the same. (for Single phase).

On 3-phase check ZP-N and Ze again they will be substantially the same.

Asking a question like that (or any other question) shouldn't leave you open to abuse. Its a fair question, and i bet there are plenty of people who didn't know.

Cheers…………Howard

Thanks Howard.

My answer is actually badly worded, I should have said compare Ze and Z P-N for both SP and TP+N, as with all bonding connected in taking the PEFC reading, this could give a slightly higher reading compared to the PSSC in some circumstances.

I knew what I meant though, lol.

Never identify anything without seeing it first. If there's no access to the service head, then don't do the job.

Agreed. Results should confirm what your eyes tell you.

Then again.......could be a bit of a problem if working on a final sub circuit at Heathrow airport.
