Hi,

I was tasked to install a bathroom extractor fan by a plasterer who gives me lots of little jobs.

I arrived at the job, fan ready to be installed so I check bonding and see its 6mm, condition is fine and it's connected to a 3036 board.

I inform customer the bonding needs upgrading, they agreed they will when they get their board changed.

They said they had a new meter installed 3 yrs ago by the electricity board and they said all was fine. I argued my point, also noting the cost of the fcu rcd wouldn't be needed if new updated board and bonding was installed. They said they will get me back in 2 weeks to upgrade everything (hopefully)

I install my extractor, local isolator, rcd fcu and test and sort out a few other issues with the junction box (live conductors on show in a damaged JB)

On the cert I note the condition of the bonding (gas/water).

Can the 6mm bonding be accepted in such circumstances that the condition is fine with no heat damage?

the 6mm bonding can be left in place as long as it's intact and there's no signs of thermal damage. obviously, replacement with 10mm would be advantageous, but it's down to what the customer will accept in terms of cost and possible disruption to decor/floors etc.

Thanks for everyone replys.

Ive noted on the cert, bonding condition/size and recommended action.

I think I'll be back to upgrade the board and bonding. They were impressed with the work and explanation.

Didn't the scams take a u-turn on this quite recently, and are now saying bonding needs upgrading to 10mm regardless on TNCS?
sod the scams. they don't write the regs. IET do. :toilet:
