Is there a reg number in building regs regarding fire rated downlights on a rewire. Do fire rated fittings need fitted if there is no habitable room above, such as a toilet above a kitchen.

Technically, you do not need to install fire rated anywhere in the house UNLESS you are breaking through separate fire compartments eg if there is a flat above or you are installing them in an integral garage with rooms above.

Having said that, for the sake of a few quid i always fit them regardless and nearly all LABC's insist on them, primarily because they dont have a clue.
