Hello, this is what i have

BTEC national cert in elec and electronic engineering.
NVQ2 in electrical installation
City+guilds PAT course 2377 1,2

I am starting the 17th edition in september

After reading a few posts i realise that i would need the NVQ3 in elec installation and the 2391-10 to be fully qualified...

If i gained all of the above could i apply for NIC, JIB etc or would i still have to go back to college and complete the 2330???

thanks in advance :D

hello there if your thinkin about working for ya self all you realy need is BS 7671 2382 17th edition to gain registration with the niceic but it is advisable to get a sound knowledge of electrical priciples 2330 level 2 and inspection and testing 2392 you can get all tht done within a year but if you work for a company thy want you to have 2330 l2 2330 l3 nvq 3 2382 2391 the list goes on and on by the time ya done its time to retire lol hope this helps

Thanks for the reply mate... i would like to work as a mate for a while before working as an electrician, The BTEC cert coverd elec principles and it is the same as 2330 level 3 so ive been told... i just dont know how emloyers view the BTEC cert vs the 2330..... also would the NVQ level2 not be the same as 2330 level2??

i wouldnt even bother with nvq2 as most employers are only interested in 2330 level 2 and 3 and nvq3 you can only do nvq3 once you hav finished 2330 level 3 hope this helps

I started my NVQ level 3 half way through my 2330 level 2.
My college also pushes us towards the AM2 to go alongside the NVQ3 (which is odd as they don't run the AM2 course, nearest centre is 40 miles away)

Did my AM2 20 years ago and had to travel about 50miles to nearest test center so nothing changed their then.

You do NOT require C&G 2391 to qualify as an Electrician. It is necessary for regrading as an Approved Electrician (after a minimum of two years post-qualification experience).

Again thanks for all the replies...

Iceman.. I have allready gained my nvq2, i thought the next step from an NVQ 2 would be the NVQ 3, looks like the NVQ and the BTEC were/are a waste of time... the college that i attended didnt run the 2330 course and basically i was pushed into doing the said courses, and the tutors said that i could become an elctrician... bloody bugas.. Never mind, al just try for a elec mate then maybe go it alone in a few years time.. Cheers

Hi there, Im wondering if any body can help me. I started a JTL apprenticeship 6 years ago now and completed every assesment and examinations were passed with flyng colours and went on to pass the AM2. Unfortunatley i got laid off from my employer 2 months before i was to finish! Therefore i couldnt couldnt finish the log book to go on to obtain the NVQ Level3 . I went on to take the COMP-EX 1-4 and the offshore survival. I am wanting to obtain the jib card but dont know if i can?

Can any body help?

Thanks alot
