.......I don't think that's even the question!! :D

OK Y'all. I quoted on a rewire on a 2 bed bungalow the other day. The owners want me to do the work but cant stretch to the cost of a full rewire. So I am having a look at areas that may not necessarily need ripping out and replacing.

There's only one ring final supplying pretty much every socket in the place. As the floors are concrete the wiring is dropped down the walls in conduit from the loft to each socket. The loft area must contain about 30 junction boxes (at first glance) and it seems to me that each socket on the ring is not looped in the ring but spurred off a junction box. Now I gather that is OK as you are allowed as many spurs on a ring as there are points, I believe.
If the R1+R2 and Ins Res check out OK on this circuit, would I be OK to suggest that they can keep it in and I just inspect all the JBs?

I haven't been able to do the tests yet as some twonk extended the cables slightly to reach the CCU and used ONE crimp to join both legs of the ring to the two extension wires on both the Line and Neutral conductors. And the crimp is visible but not accessible (yet). I didnt want to pull to hard on it as I had visions of the wires coming out in my hands!!!!

The loft looks like a bowl of pasta and meat balls from all the cable and JBs...but it all looks to be in good condition and adequately earthed.

So....back to the subject......can the ring final stay or should I rewire and loop in each socket, thereby eliminating 8000 JBs and miles and miles of cable?

Hi you know the old saying (open a can of worms ) lots of junction boxs means work!! i come across this all the time ( cheap job as got no money) do it properly mate and rewire what needs doing !! think about other trades its not often a tiler will do a cheap job so why should we;)

u should defo get it re wired properly. chances r it wont met r1 r2 value anyway due to all the jb connections n crimps that u mention

Rewire is the only option if you do half a job and anything happens later you will get the blame as the expert who said it was ok to leave as is and as others have said I doubt that the test results will be satisfactory.
