Got a "easy job" today... Lights (LEDs) at the bottom of the road at a hotel signs were flashing "like a disco".
Odd I though, possibly bulbs on there way out, proceeded to the hotel. Spoke to the owner and switched on the lights. They go round a car park and down the access road to the signs at the bottom of the road, around a 800m run.
The lights all rounded the car park and down the road work fine so proceed to the flashing LEDs thinking there must be something funny foing on here, start at the furtherest point and check the voltages, L-N 220v. l-E 234v N-E 22v.
How bloody odd. Disconnected the circuit before the LEDs come into play to see if perhaps the drivers or something led related was to blame as there is a small loop of metal the earth runs through in each of the LEDs.
Same readings...
Go further up the line to the junction box from the last lighting point in the car park that feeds the line down the road. Live is connected to live, neutral to neutral and the "earth" down the road is just terminated. Not connected to anything!
Of course I didn't have an IR tester with me either. So I've disconnected the cable down the road until tomorrow to go back to check the cable down the road, seems like there is leakage somewhere and need to figure out what is Earth in the junction box to connect it up properly as well.
love an "easy job". Hahaha
