Hello everyone
I need help if possible
I have a revolving disc....outside of this disc on static ground i have a series of switches around the outside of the disc...the disc needs to spin at 1000 rpm.

problem...the switches are burning out and melting...and the system is only 12 volt.

the answer is that i need beefier and faster switches

any ideas thanks jim

I would look at another way. You dont say what the switches are for, but i guess that at 1000rpm they are switching on and off under load lots of times, hence your problem.

Cheers........Howard

What would be a better idea would be to use contactors and switch them rather than using the switch , the problem with switches is they are use a rocker action this causes an arc especially under large loads hence the reason they are burning out , where as most contactors use a straight bar connecting the 2 contacts of the switch at the same time when the supply is connected by the coil ,

thanks nick,,,that sounds like a try,,,,,,im a dockie not an electrician, I am trying to invent a small machine,,,,,thanks again

Are you not better off changing your present switches for proximity switches?

Thanks for the advice from everyone......my problem is i am a dockie in southampton uk i know nothing about electrics eccept it can make you jump .....about forty years ago my father suggested an idea.....ive been cut down to two days a week and with all the time i thought i would try it.

basically i have a small bycycle wheel which spins on a stand from an outside source....on the out side edge of the wheel i have six small platforms to trip the microswitches.....the wheel spins at about 1000rpm...this now burns out the switches....i need something that can take the punishment.... i will try some of your suggestions.
thanks again,,,,,,jim

You could use proximity switches to sense the six small platforms as they spin round, instead of using the micro switches. They will be up for the job, as we use them to sense spinning discs with holes in them (or nuts sticking out), at high speed.
