I dont carry much either, tend to order per job. The wholesalers all deliver the next day any way. Plus it is unlikely that I can do a job immediately, usually a while off so just order.
That said I carry a few sockets, switches, surface boxes, earth cable (4, 10 and 16mm), T&E (2.5, 1.5, 3core and some 3 core flex), chockboxes, connector strips/ wago connectors (moving over to them now) and earth sleeving.
most useful seems to be flexible conduit, gromets, earth clamps and earth cable.

on mine right now i have

Cable.. singles 1.5mm up to 4.0mm, 6.0mm & 10mm cpc

T&E 1.5mm up to 6.00mm

flex 0.75mm up to 2.5mm

Mk & Crabtree sockets & spurs (backboxes to suit

YT2 trunking bends

2 hop ups

1 pair of steps

rods

fish tape

dust sheets

and drills!!

My top list
1: a good torch! (surprised no else mentioned it)
2: warm dry coat, spare strides socks and pants
3: Lots of tape, sheath, silicon
4:pllenty of assorted screws, nuts, bolts, washers
5:Cable
6: Drinks, food, smokes
7:Cash/change for parking meters, tolls etc
8:MAP/SATNAV with locations of wholesalers etc
9:pens, pads, laptop with 3G dongle
10:Bottle of Scotch/Port/Wine for when you need to make amends/thank or apologise (crate of beer works better on site but you only have a small van)
