Hi Everyone,

My name is Shaurya and I'm from India. I am currently doing a research on the Electrical Testing Business in the UK. I'm trying to understand the top 5-6 players in UK that provide PAT Testing services or High Voltage Testing services. All these companies must be registered with NICEIC or ECA.

On the basis of my research, I have shortlisted these five companies as the top 5 in the electrical testing sector: Southern Electric, Megger, Metrel, Seaward and Fluke.

Please help me confirm the same or suggest any new players that you may think are better than these five.

Regards,
Shaurya

Why must the companies be registered with NICEIC or ECA? I am sure this is a wind up or you have your wires crossed - are you after companies that carry out testing, or those that supply the testers??

The Ones you're quoted are not involved in Appliance or Fixed Installation Testing ,but are are all Test Equipment Manufacturers, apart from "Southern Electric" wich is a energy provider.

If you are looking for companies that are offering PAT testing (In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment) and Electrical Inspection and Testing of Fixed Installations ,then there are hundreds to choose from, some good but in no way are the so-called "Big players" the providers of the best quality!

Thanks a lot for your reply. Actually what I meant was that I am looking for companies, registered with either NICEIC or ECA, that are key players in electrical testing. So basically I am looking for service providers, that test an electrical equipment and give a certificate. But there are some players like Seaward that manufacture the equipments and provide testing services as well.

There is no specific reason behind an NICEIC registration but its just there in my project scope that's why I'm forced to think that way.

Correct. When I go through the websites of the companies that I mentioned, they seem more like an equipment manufacturer than a service provider.
It would be great if you can help me with some of the "good" players in the electrical testing business. I understand the market is very fragmented.

Seaward does NOT provide testing services!!! They are manufacturers and provide Training, and they're not even NICEIC registered.
Also ,Registration with NIC or ECA or NAPIT etc. is not a requirement to carry out testing of any kind.

Ok. I'm sorry. I think I misunderstood 'On-site Caliberation' to be equivalent to Electrical Testing. It would be really great if you can pick out some electrical testing service provider company names from the back of your head. It would be a big favor. Thanks

Not for me to decide who the "good players" are but have a look at; electrical-testing.co.uk
and have look at their articles etc.
i have personal experience with them.

Thanks a lot for your help. This company looks good to me. :)

I would like to request other to please answer my queries and help me with some important/famous companies in electrical testing industry in UK.

Like Marnik says, this is a minefield and not really a question that can be easily answered. There are millions of companies out there doing electrical testing, i cant think of what could be the biggest or the best! I think that small businesses quite often offer a better local service as they arent always driven by comission to sell repairs and take pride in their work. I do a full range of electrical inspection and testing and also do the PAT Testing. I like to think i offer a good service, and would rather spend all day doing a test and getting it right than being like some of the larger companies who simply put rubbish like 'circuit not traced'. i do some work in a college that was tested a year or two ago by what appears to be a large testing company in comparrison, and their results arent worth the paper they are written on.

To me the 'important' companies are the ones who do the job correctly! And another point for this is that being registered with NICEIC, or ECA doesnt mean anything!
