Hi guys,
just wondering if torque screwdrivers need calibrating regularly? Had a set for a year roughly and wondering if they need calibrating, and if so, can anyone recommend a good company to have them calibrated.
Cheers for any help on the matter.

Would be interested to see price of calibration as the drivers are coming down in price.surely we aren't going to be buying a new one every year as its cheaper than calibration.

If the price is anything like getting a torque wrench calibrated then it will be much cheaper to replace than getting it calibrated as you also have to factor in any repair / replacement costs if it fails. I know of quite a few places where they replace their torque wrenches every 12 months rather than get them calibrated as it is cheaper and causes less inconvenience

Not being an owner of such a tool, I am interested in your opinion on how you compare a torque tightened terminal - particularly a main switch or RCD with how you used to tighten them before owning such a tool yourself?
I think that argument been done to death. You either do it old school and tighten till you are happy, or new school, check tightness with torque driver. Manufacturers state you can over tighten terminals. Either way, when you happy, tick the box in the EIC.

I agree, but never having used one, I was just interested how tight they actually tighten? I didn't intend buying one to find out.

All of them ? I have seen minimum torque values, maximum torque values, and also recommended torque values, all pertaining to cable terminations from different manufacturers.

Most require annual calibration. We have production torque drivers in the workshop the require calibration every so many thousand operations and we self calibrate using one of these. It's all down to the manufacturer. You also get a very simple arm and weight system for testing torque devices, I don't think they're very expensive. You also get cheap transducer type torque testers like this one.

The 1552, which I also own, does not predate GS38. You have nothing to worry about.
