Hi all,
A friend as asked me to add two new sockets to a room that currenty has no sockets.
Behind the wall in the next room is the downstairs ring main with RCD protection and a 32A breaker.
My friend wants the sockets on the adjacent wall so I was planning to drill through then continue the ring in to the other wall. However she has only just decorated so doesn't want me to start channelling so my only option is to use conduit would this be acceptable using 2.5mm T&E and 25mm plastic conduit ?
I have a fluke 1652C to test continuity of the ring before and after.
Any further advice would be welcome
Thank you
Mike

Thanks SirKit Breaker, I feel really uncomfortable about using conduit but if thats what the customer wants and its safe I guess I have no choice !
I was going to join the new ring to the old ring using either WAGOs or Crimps in the back box of the existing socket, hope thats ok too !
Cheers
Mike

Why dont you use minitrunking?....the rooms going to look like a factory with 25mm conduit on the wall.
Avoid insulated crimps on solid core 2.5mm,it never makes a secure connection, wagos a better option if there's space enough in the box.

Thanks guys, sorry but Duh ! on my part I am getting confused between my trunking and my conduit ! Ive got 25 x 16mm flat trunking as I need the space for the 2 x 2.5mm cable, I will try and use wagos but not alot of room in the back box, I guess other option is a junction box ?
Thanks again
Mike

How many extra sockets are you intending to add, and what do you anticipate the extra loading?

I was going to suggest you add a 13amp spur and wire some sockets in 1,5mm fusing them down to 13amp, but it will be to much load with a dryer and tong I would imagine

ok thanks will proceed with plan a, continue the ring in mini trunking add two new sockets and hope to join it using wagos if room ! Cheers guys

You could always use butt crimp connectors, preferably bare ones with a couple of layers of heat shrink insulation sleeving/tubing. Or alternatively heat shrink insulated butt crimps. I wouldn't use PVC insulated crimps, far too bulky to fit into the back of a back box!!

replace existin back box with a 35mm one. can you not use a long drill, drill at an angle from existing point to come out other side of wall, then fit new sockets there?

sadly she wants the sockets on the opposite wall, as she has started a hair dressing business from this room at home, she wants the hair dryer etc on that wall ! I did think about dropping down from the ceiling but she doesnt want any channels in her new wall paper !
