Below is a link to another part of this forum posted up by Dan the owner. Please read the first bullet point, it effects you directly.

http://www.electriciansforums.co.uk...es-suggestions/90033-small-forum-changes.html

What this means is that everyone on the forum can see that you are a trainee and because of that, anyone that makes a a snide remark or is condescending to you will dealt with. All you need to do is hit the report button which is the TRIANGLE warning sign next to the THANKS button or (as it is for now but may be taken off later) the blue report writing at the bottom of each post.

We have lost people in training from the open/general forum because of condescending remarks made towards them. That is why a group of members got this section up and running and it took a lot of time to get it started, about a year. The main rule is that NO-ONE undermines the posts and comments from a trainee. In here it has worked, not a single member has been reported in this trainee section for crossing the very tight line that we have. May it continue.

I dont know (at the moment) what your forum tittle will be? Maybe just Trainee member, how knows? Dont look at it in a negitive way, look at it has your shield away from the trolls and people that like to make fun out of others. The whole forum is now yours to post up upon with no snide remarks or bullying. If something happens just hit the report button, simple as that.

Have fun out there but please be aware that hundreds of members (like myself) have a good sense of humor and we will have a laugh and a joke, if you find any post towards you offensive just hit the report button and the Mods will slap our wrist lol.

PS, whilst I've got your attention. Please pass on this forums web address to the people in your collage so they can be a part of this trainee section. It needs to grow. Plans have been started to get lecturers into here (if they want to) so you can ask the questions that you may not have the time to ask in collage etc. Pass it on

Thanks Paul, you're a star mate.

User Title is simply "Trainee".

Username colour is either purple-ish, or brown-ish/orange-ish. I was running out of bold obvious colours that can be read easily and also not mixed up with existing colours too easily. So sorry about that lads and ladies.

I'd like to reiterate what Paul has said.

The forum (and forum in fact) needs to thrive on questions for there to be answers for there to be a forum in the first place. We've ended up with a small handful of people who have been with the forum a long time (not always regulars) that seem to have a small handful of followers each that copy them. So when they leave a small sarcastic remark, their followers take that a step further, then that attracts a couple more remarks which are over the line, and it quickly goes off-topic and out of control.

What we need is for you to report the first guy, not matter how many posts they have or how many badges they have next to their name, and we'll be able to get a moderator in on that thread as soon as possible to clear it up and take action against those who are repeatedly offending people.

Thanks for being part of our forum. Without you, one wouldn't exist.

Cheers both. :)

Have to say, it's generally more pleasant in here (the trainee only bit) so I applaud your original efforts in setting it up in the first place.

Will you (or one of your hard-working volunteers) do a sweep of those who've asked for access to this bit of the forum to give us our badges and our purple-orange-brown names? Or do we have to pipe up? I know it's a big job, please don't take this as me being impatient... Was gonna post anyway to say thanks so thought I'd just tag the question on the end.

There are about 30 out of hundreds who need their accounts manually changing now. I'll just have to spot them as and when as I'm running out of time now. Been on this all day and all through the night with only a few hours sleep. Haven't eaten yet today.

I've just edited your account though, and it's purple you have. :)

Trainee is the only option I'm afraid I don't want to have dozens of titles. These regulars need it easy and obvious it seems. So let's just look at it as 'if you have access to the trainee area, you're title is trainee to reflect that' moreso than you actually always being a trainee.

Same for DIY but that doesn't apply to you lot I guess.

Paul, unfortunately I've set everybody on the forum to have the title 'Member' now as it was getting far far too cliquey. And if I set them per user, we'll end up with many wanting various things being used.

There is more in life to worry about than a tittle on a forum, Member is fine with me. It states what I am, A Member.

Trainee on whatever level should also be fine but people on apprenticeships should mention this within their posts (in the open forum) so we know who we are speaking with. EG "I am a 2nd apprentice and dont understand Emergency Lighting circuitry". The response will be a lot different if you did not mention your level. Try it, it will work.

That's an awesome suggestion.

Please also feel free to edit your signatures to explain you're an apprentice or whatever too. Then it would apply to all your existing posts too which will help a bit.

Yep, stating stuff in your signature often helps, although (a) anyone using Tapatalk or similar won't see them (didn't realise this for months), and (b) dunno about anyone else, but my eyes usually pass over them without me taking it in. If you're gonna ask a question (or maybe respond to one) and your status is relevant, worth adding a few words in that regards I reckon, as Paul.M suggests. :)

And me too when someone gets the chance! Tapatalk does make things easier when on phone, iPad, etc. But you do miss the whole forum and being able to see these things (except maybe the adverts!)

With 10+ posts, you can browse the forum with literally no adverts.

  • Use the toggle switch for the sidebar to hide that. (Even not logged in you can do that)
  • When logged in 90% of the google ads go, when over 10 posts ALL google ads go. So you shouldn't see any of those.
  • Then the links that get automatically made are a thing called 'Skimlinks' and are automatically added. You can scroll down to the bottom of THIS page and uncheck the Skimlinks box and save.

Zero ads.

Edit: just sorted your account colour out. Not sure what was going on there but you had about 4 account settings applied to your account including DIY and Trusted Advisor?!

Set it to just trainee. If that's wrong let me know?

I think you can enable your own signature in your tapatalk settings for each forum you have in your account. The stock signature is "Posted using Tapatalk" which I have disabled. But I'm 50% sure you can enable your own then still.
