Not a moan or a gripe, I was reminiscing this morning of my days as an Apprentice back in the early 1960, Tel may well remember those days, sorry Tel.

Any way I started with a small contracting firm in Bath, we did mainly rewires etc, and I was enrolled in Bath Tech and O stuck at it unlike most of the Apprentices I knew at the time, most of the Electricians I worked with were good Sparkies as far as I could tell, and there was never any talk of training Schools etc.

None of the Sparks I worked with talked of qualifications or the like. in fact I often wonder if the Electricians in those days had any quals. I stuck with college even after T came out of my time.

My question is when did all the talk of courses start to appear? I can't recall myself. I left contracting after finishing my Apprenticeship, and went on to work as a Maintenance electrician, didn't find it that hard to be honest continuing with college as well, so at what stage did all these courses start up? was it in response to the MP's Daughter getting a belt, and the emergence of Part P?, Memory is fading as we speak.
