Dear Forum member
This question is hardly worthy of your talents but I thought I would just check anyhow.
I have a nice set of outdoor Christmas lights but have lost the transformer.
Happy to buy a new one but need to check what rating it should be:
The lighting circuit comprises of :
80 bulbs, each bulb is stamped 2.4 V 0.12 A

Need a lot more info ref how the lights are wired. Is there a sequencer(a little box with different modes) in the circuit.? Outdoor lights don't usually have more than 24v transformers, if this was the case then the lights would be wired in 8 series of 10 lamps and would require a transformer of 24v at 1.2 amps assuming only one series of 10 lamps were lit at any one time. If all lights were lit at the same time then you would need a transformer running 24v at 9.6a, again assuming the lamps were in series of 10. Given the price of transformers then economically the best option is to junk the lights and buy replacements. They are probably Chinese so replacement would almost certainly work out cheaper.
