Discuss transporting earths again in the Electrical Wiring, Theories and Regulations area at ElectriciansForums.net

as iq says widdler. these are not set in the ground they are fixed to the wall. im not really that bothered but know that way when jobs just bug you, lol.

I would consider them to not be subject to an alternative earth potential if they are fixed to the wall, and so the armouring and RCD should suffice.

zs was within limits. im just wondering why we cant transport tn c s to a caravan, if we look at bulkhead light fittings as small caravans, far fetched i know, is it within bs 7671 to take tn c s to them? or should i have spiked them? its a sticky subject i know. just wondering what you guys think.

Are we discussing the use of bulkheads as caravans for extremely small persons here?

ooompah loomphs pehaps lol someone needs to look out for them. i just cant see why the big (caravan) and the small (bulkhead light fitting) make a diferance for me the problem of 25 v or so potential diff still exists aqaaarrrrggghhhh im going to eat my own head.

The difference is that under an open circuit neutral fault condition, you wouldn't be inside a bulkhead light fitting (well I wouldn't be).

why would you have to be inside? surely the potential dif still exists between the fitting and the general mass of earth. an electricians hands may be inside the fitting also.

Gamblor think your putting too much thought into it, if bulkheads are suitable for outdoor use etc etc just go ahead and wire it in armour, personally I'd use 3core rather then 2 core and using the armour as an earth I'd still earth the armour but I'd have a seperate core for a direct earth. Also you can use the new earthing nuts that save u from drilling the accessories and messing with the ip integrity of the fitting!

cheers gaulty jobs been done, just used the armour as earth. the only times the armour is too small to be used as earth is summit like 250 mm and 300 mm lines. agreed im thinkin too much. still think the problems are the same tho, where in scotland are you gaulty?
