hello chaps
need some help with tracel expenses. my employer pays jib travel rates to work etc. the question is, can i claim the rest from HMRC as i am finding it difficult to manage with ridicilous petrol prices. last year i have worked in crewe for 3 months at the the most throught the whole year, but different locations for the rest. as an electrician who is employed as a contractor working on different sites, ranging from typically 6 month contracts to callouts and the odd week here and there, can you claim expenses from HMRC. or because the employer expects me to travel from different sites am i not eligible to claim.any help preferred, thanks

If you are self employed and work from home as I do then all travel is tax deductable. If you are self employed but have a place of business ie your office/shop then travel to and from home to office/shop is not deductable.ris

Think you would need to speak to HRMC or a good accountant to have your situation defined

Hope that helps a bit
