Hi All

My customer has just called to say her RCD main switch trips when the washing machine is on - only happens with the W/M and when it is approaching the spin cycle. Machine is 3 years old but has just been moved from her old house - no problems with it at the old house. Is it likely to be a fault with the machine or can anyone suggest any other useful potential causes?

Thanks
Andy

was there an rcd at the old property?
maybe worth doing a ir test on the machine to see if there is a short, although may only surface when cabling hot causing short when under load.
possible earth leakage leaving the rcd at its near tripping point until the machine is using alot of power to spin.
maybe worth doing a ramp test with it plugged in and one without?
any surge protective devices plugged in?
computers etc?

=0)

You may still have a problem with earth leakage though, it could be that the Samsung has less leakage than the Bosch ones. If you do get a random...

My guess is an earth to N fault in the damaged light fitting. This will become a problem when other devices draw large currents.
