Do NOT do this. It is fun to make things out of junk but it's no excuse to cut corners with electrical safety. Any cable with two plugs is dangerous, whether parallel wired or hot-to-hot like this, as exposed prongs can be energised. The are are other safety issues with this project too, so do yourself a favour, buy a safe welder from the tool store, and if it needs 240V get a proper 240V outlet installed.
