Two solar arrays with MicroInverters into one AC lead to the board - AC Cable Choice? | on ElectriciansForums

Discuss Two solar arrays with MicroInverters into one AC lead to the board - AC Cable Choice? in the Electrical Wiring, Theories and Regulations area at ElectriciansForums.net

Begonia

The arrays are as follows 10 x 250w panels and 6 x 250w panels

I have been asked to get answers to these questions:

1. Does each array need its own isolator at a junction box in the loft before combining the AC feed to the board?

2. a. Having got the single AC feed, I calculate roughly 18-20 amps approx. is being carried. Now some (approx. 3mtrs) of this single AC feed cable is going to be outside so what cable type is best to use to prevent UV light degradation?

2. b. If we use PVC covered cable for this AC feed would it be OK to house it inside a plastic conduit?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Two solar arrays with MicroInverters into one AC lead to the board - AC Cable Cho

1 - yes

2 - it had best not be 18-20 amps, as you (presumably) only have permission to connected 16amps to the grid. UV resistant cable such as SWA - important to be using 6mm2 cable here, unless you want to join the long list of numpty sparks using undersized cable and leaving customers with inverters cutting out regularly due to overvoltage.

2 b - probably.

Possibly this an older thread..I've similar job, whereby inverter to be sited on ground floor by consumer unit. I''v not done it yet, but i'm sure they have asked for a spare way to left for them and that they were going to use 4mm. Large house, 2 x solar panels. Are you saying min 6mm for this also?

2 panels. 500 watts? Assuming 250 each?
Or do you mean 2 strings of panels?
