Is there a correct way to wire a two way light switch, I have one where the two sets of cables are wired Red - Common
L1 Black (switched live and Yellow. L2 Red and Blue, another is Red Common, L1 Red and Yellow, L2 Black switched live and Blue.

Hi Neilrob, I figured from your previous thread you're not an electrician so I've moved this to the DIY forum for you.

Is there a correct way to wire a two way light switch

No. There are many ways of wiring a two way light switch. Obviously, the standard core colours changed a few years ago, so there may be a mix of old and new. Also there are several different ways of two way wiring, depending on what's easiest, given the particular physical layout.

2 Sets at one switch, one set at the other, the one with 2 sets has one cable with red, black and earth from ceiling rose, the other set goes to other switch red, yellow, blue and earth.
What I need to know is there a standard sequence in which the L1 and L2 are wired, example red and yellow in L1, black and blue in L2, or black and yellow in L1 and red and blue in L2, the red in the strapper cable is in the common in both switches.

No, there will be one cable with 2 insulated cables and a earth in one cable, and 3 insulated cables and a earth in the other, as long as you reconnect the way you described originally it will work fine.

there is no set way. however, many sparks used to wire yellow common, red L1, blue L2 so that at the switch with the T/E as well as the 3 core we had red to red and blue to black.

Thanks for the info, none of the conductors have the sleeving to indicate they are live is it ok to add brown sleeving as these are the old colours or would red insulating tape be better.

brown or red sleeving is acceptable. preferably red to keep to the original wiring colours.

Probably be cheaper to go to a local DIY store and buy some red or brown insualtion tape.
