Hi,

I'm new to the forum, had a look and not sure where to post this, so feel free to move it if wrong!

Wondered if anyone could help me please, I have imported an electrical unit from the USA, however when I plugged it in using a 'travel adapter', the main adapter for the unit 'popped' and smoke came out.

I have been in touch with the company but they have not really been much help. I'm guessing the UK has a completely different input supply to the USA and that caused the issue.

Does any one know where I can buy an equivalent adapter in the UK?

Here is a picture:

It may be worth pointing out that the connecter that goes into the unit form the end of the adapter wire, is slightly longer than normal.

Thanks

The US adapter requires a power input of 120v and you appear to have plugged it into a 230v supply, hence why it went pop. Without wishing to state the obvious you'll need a new 230v one.

There are 120 - 240volt transformers you can buy... It might work... but depends on what your powering. The transformers however DO NOT normally change the frequency which in certain circumstances can be a problem.

You might be better off looking for a 24V 350ma (or greater) UK transformer

Seen it allot with disco equipment.... You buy a say Denon or Pioneer from the US for about 2/3 of the price (including shipping).. There were horror stories on DJ forums of people using transformers and because of the frequency difference they stopped working..... and you've got no warranty!!!

you need a 240v in 24v out at 350mA . go for a 1A from CPC/Farnell, and if necessary, cut the 24v socket off and replace with the one from the US adaptor.

Great, thanks for the responses everyone.

I'll place a back order on that one Steve mentioned on the RS site; at least I know i'm getting the right one, hopefully will be in stock soon.

Thanks again. :)
