Greetings All. I have unanswered questions regarding the British Electrical Code. Do you have to be a licensed electrician to bid electrical work? Do you have to be a licensed electrician to install electrical in buildings and dwellings? If so, is there a ratio of licensed personnel per laborers on electrical installations? Are electrical products for installation supposed to be "listed" by a reputable testing company such as CE or UL? Any information you can send my way will be greatly appreciated.
Thank You

As far as I know(which isn't very much)No you don't have to be an electrician to bid for work, and also no licencing for installers per say.But if commercial work is being done then it would be likely that the specs for the job would specify the amount of labourer to qualified electrician ratio. The design, responsibility for installation and its testing would need to be by a competent person, and to prove competency you would need to be able to show qualifications and experience. As for the equipment installed I believe C E is used and BASEC for cables. There is also a list of British standards for equipment though often this can be superceeded by "tougher" standards which may be in force in the country of manufacture. Also some jobs may require all materials to be from a iso 2008 regd supplier.Sorry can't help you further.
