Evening my chaps...

Well my favourite subject has sprung up once again - central heating :rolleyes2:

On a job where the plumber has piped up 2 underfloor heating zones, never wired up one of these before... but feeling quite confident.

It isn't my usual plumber I work with this chap seems pretty grumpy and unhelpful, barely got word out of him the other day...lets see how things go tomorrow then.

Just wondering what I will need, would I be right in thinking along the lines of the following :

- Stat for each zone x 2 (any particular type?)

- One channel Programmer (but could alternatively come on with existing central heating and pair up with switched supply from that unit?)

- Some sort of JB all the components link up to (pump, manifold, zone valve, stats, programmer) is this normally supplied with underfloor heating kit ? Maybe there will be a wiring diagram with it. Or am I going to have to improvise and make something up myself.

Have attached a picture of what I've been left with.... a zone valve, pump maybe? (bottom right), 2 core manifold cable (above pump)

Many Thanks,

Sy

would treat it as a separate system from exsisting either use single channel prog and two stats or two programmable stats must be two actuators in the kit somewhere screw on where blue caps are cable above the pump im guessing is a overheat stat

I'm not too sure about the valve heads as he has fitted a black bulb thermostat to the left of the blue spots, as you can see the phial and capillary line. This valve will open and close on temperature and the phial must be fixed tightly to the return water pipe. Can't say that I'm familiar either with the 2 wire thingy on top of the pump?

I would suggest maybe that you wire the 2 port valve supply up through a time clock and the boiler feed via the 2 port valve output (can't remember if it's the orange/grey wire) and put the pump in parallel with the zone valve.

If it's not wired right, there is a chance that the pump will burn out as he doesn't appear to have fitted any bypass valve in case the 2 port closes and the pump is energised. Also, in this configuration, I don't see how the pump could be shut down when the black bulb stat closes? Possible pump burn out then also?

Not my specialist area but I am a little familiar with these things, something similar is fitted to the systems we install heat pumps on.

It's strange seeing the pump connected across the flow and return? Maybe this acts as the bypass?

Nice Post!..This method of heating a home has been in use since the neoglacial and neolithic eras. This type of heating can also be more energy efficient and cost effective while reducing the risk of allergy problems and asthma attacks.Thanks..
